Now it’s all about our oceans – starting tomorrow, 16 May, with SIF Oceans

The high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development will be convened at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 5 to 9 June 2017, coinciding with World Oceans Day, to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14. The Governments of Fiji and Sweden have the co-hosting responsibilities of the Conference.
SDSN Northern Europe and the West Swedish Maritime Cluster now join forces to promote innovative solutions to meet challenges of our oceans. We do this by creating the Ocean Solutions Report and get together at the Solution Initiative Forum Oceans on 16 May, 2017 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What is SIF Oceans?
SIF Oceans is the first edition of SIF and it provides an interactive meeting arena to identify and promote available solutions from Northern Europe focusing on four challenges:
- Marine litter solutions focusing on collecting, recycling and replacing plastic.
- Smart and Clean Energy for All – solutions focusing on marine renewable energy such as sea current, wave and tidal energies, as well as reducing greenhouse emissions from shipping.
- Finding sustainable protein sources – solutions focusing on production of marine food for humans and livestock.
- Marine pollution – solutions focusing on reducing emissions of environmental pollutants.
Together for our Oceans
Starting tomorrow, 16 May, SDSN Northern Europe will collaborate with ocean experts within different organizations to highlight Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14. Research and other work related to Oceans will be communicated by SDSN Northern Europe from May 16 to June 9 in our social media channels. This time SDSN Northern Europe will especially cooperate with our member Environment for Development Initiative.
