We talked to Isabella Lövin, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate, and Deputy Prime Minister, at the UN Ocean Conference yesterday. She stressed that the Oceans Solutions Report, developed by SDSN Northern Europe and the West Swedish Maritime Cluster, is just the starting point for the future work that needs to be done for our oceans.

The Oceans Solutions Report is created to inspire you to act – act to reach Sustainable Development Goal No. 14: Life Below Water – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The report showcases some examples of solutions from Northern Europe to show that a sustainable use of our oceans is possible.

The report was launched during Solution Initiative Forum (SIF) Oceans, on 16 May, where SDSN Northern Europe and the West Swedish Maritime Cluster joined forces to promote innovative solutions to meet the challenges of our oceans.

It is really energizing with all the participants both from civil society, from the private sector, from governments and regional organizations,” says Isabella Lövin. “Everyone is looking at the problems with the oceans from different angles and everyone realizes that we need to cooperate a lot more and take a lot more responsibility. This is just a starting point of a process and we heard quite encouraging messages today that Portugal will follow up on this conference and host another conference in a few years and we need to see that this is the engine driving the force to save our oceans. I think we’re going to make it!”
