Celebrating World Oceans Day with SIF Oceans News

Today, the 8th of June 2018, is the World Oceans Day. It’s a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future. Around a year ago, on May 16th 2017, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe and the Maritime Cluster of West Sweden arranged Solutions Initiative Forum (SIF) Oceans. We gathered over 100 entrepreneurs, business representatives, industry representatives, investors, researchers and decision makers to promote more sustainable solutions for our oceans. Small companies, start-ups and projects were selected as solutions, focusing on the four challenges Marine litter, Smart and clean energy for all, Finding sustainable protein sources and Marine pollution. At the SIF Oceans event we also launched the Oceans Solutions Report, which highlights the possibilities for these solutions to promote a more sustainable use of our oceans.
After one year the participating solutions was asked if their business has developed, if SIF Oceans and the Oceans Solutions Report has affected their development, and if they would recommend other small companies or developers to participate in similar events. All the solutions that replied said that they have had a positive development, that the SIF Oceans and the Oceans Solutions Report has affected their business in a good way and that they would certainly recommend other small companies or developers to participate in future SIFs. See quotes from the solutions below.
“Yes it has developed quite well into a very interesting commercial business model for small wave energy buoys, [which] can be expanded into new business segments for bigger buoys for replacing diesel generation in remote areas”
