SDSN Northern Europe supports and is an advisor to the KESTO project: “Leadership and implementation of sustainability – action research on localisation of the SDGs in Finnish municipalities“.
The project aims to support a strategic and integrative approach to sustainable urban development in Finland.
The project will use a participatory process where the sustainable development goals of the Agenda 2030 are localised in a cross-sectoral manner, which gives the opportunity to bring sustainable development to the very centre of the strategy work in cities. The process is carried out with 15-20 cities/municipalities chosen from existing networks (of the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities). The project identifies the current baseline in cross-sectoral strategy work and cross-sectoral co-creation and tests a set of easy-to-use indicators that the municipalities can use to follow their own progress. The project results in replicable models (tested by a selection of the collaborating municipalities) that support strategic leadership in operationalising the city-specific aims and allocating them with necessary resources.
