The webinar marked the launch of the first report dedicated specifically to assessing how the Nordic countries are performing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It provides a regional perspective on progress, persistent challenges, and emerging trends across the Nordic countries.

During the session, the report’s authors and representatives from SDSN discussed key findings from the assessment, reflected on similarities and differences between the Nordic countries, and highlighted why regional vs global analysis is essential for understanding pathways towards sustainable development.

Professor Katherine Richardson, one of the report’s authors, underlined the continued relevance of the SDGs in a time of geopolitical tension and competing political priorities:

You can say that the Sustainable Development Goals can’t be relevant right now with everything else going on in the world and the geopolitical tensions, that they have politically fallen out of focus. But the Sustainable Development Goals are a vision. They are a vision for how we want to share the Earth’s limited resources – not only among all humans, but also among other living organisms.

The conversation also addressed how the report’s insights can support dialogue between research, policy, and practice, and contribute to more informed decision-making at national, regional, and local levels.
